NAMI of Southern Nevada provides these classes THANKS to Donations and a grant from the State of Nevada.
There are Two Components to Family-to-Family:   Provide Education about Mental Illness and be a Support System for Families.
Together they provide maximum benefit to the family member.   Families are strongly encouraged to take advantage of both.
The courses are taught by trained NAMI family member volunteers in a team teaching approach. Family members are trained to facilitate these groups.
In the Family-to-Family Training, Families LEARN:
- They are Not ALONE
- That there is HELP
- That there is HOPE
- That there is INFORMATION
Research studies indicate that 40 - 65% of adults with severe and persistent mental illness either reside with their families or receive primary care- management from their families.
The ability of family members to provide a benign, understanding, and predictable environment for their ill relative is a key factor in the capacity of the ill family member to stabilize and remain in the community.
"FAMILY-TO-FAMILY" is a special program developed by NAMI to educate family and friends about mental illness. The curriculum focuses on three major psychiatric illnesses (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major clinical depression) emphasizing the clinical treatment of these illnesses and providing knowledge and skills that families need when faced with the difficulties of mental illness.
