The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Southern Nevada was established in 1983 and is a non-profit 501-c3 corporation, affiliated with NAMI National and NAMI Nevada. The organization is composed of families, friends, and professionals who are dedicated to helping people with mental illness and their families in coping with the devastation of the illness.
NAMI is governed by a board of directors, and derives support from dues, fundraising efforts and special gifts from members and friends. Its unique support services are made possible through the continuing efforts of dedicated volunteers.
How NAMI Can Help
Families of persons experiencing serious mental illness can recieve educational and emotional support from the NAMI organization help-line and the various support groups.

NAMI of Southern Nevada Goals
- To allieviate emotional pain and reduce tragic loss of human resources caused by mental illness.
- To enable families to maintain control of their lives to be strong and productive and to contribute to the therapy of the ill family member.
- To assist the mentally ill to achieve lives of dignity and develop to the highest level possible.
- To erase stigma, remove predudice and attain community acceptance of mental disorders as serious illnesses caused by chemical imbalance in the brain
- To promote the development of needed services, both as an extension of present treatment facilities and the creation of new ones.
- To increase participation in policy - setting efforts that affect the mentally ill on local, state and national levels.
- To initiate and support legislation that directly benefits the mentally ill and their families.
- To campaign for adequate funding to implement those laws.
